My mom and I both flew out to see my brother in San Francisco this past May. He drove us down one of the steepest hills in the city, and it scared the living hell out of my mom (she doesn’t get out much, she is almost 70 years old, and Mississippi is totally flat). This video makes me laugh so hard I cry. It is very rare that we are all three together, as we live in a funny triangle; I’m in NY, my mother in MS, and my brother in CA. Since my dad died in 2005, we’ve somehow started to laugh together much more. This video perfectly encapsulates each of our personalities: my brother, typically being silly and earnestly enjoying life; my mother, permanently anxious and comically southern; and me, the downhearted baby who is managing to have fun but almost half-ruining the moment by saying something annoyingly cynical. It also shows what siblings do best: torture their mother.
