» NPR Interview with Death Row Chaplain Carroll Pickett
He presided over 95 executions, including the first lethal injection in the world. He describes his last few moments with inmate Carlos De Luna, who was likely wrongfully executed.
This actually brought me to tears. He states that while some of the inmates walked to their deaths with no hesitation, most of them would almost always ask him to hold their hands. He recalls one man asking for five more minutes so he could be saved.
Reverend Pickett now strongly opposes the death penalty and is the subject of the documentary At the Death House Door, which premieres on May 29th.
